Comparison table: everything we cover, and no specifications

One table instead of hundreds of thin X-versus-Y pages. It holds everything the buying guides cover and deliberately holds no numbers.

The alternative to this page is the one most sites in this category build: a generated page for every pair of products, each with a table of specifications copied from two manufacturers and a sentence declaring a winner. Those pages exist because the URLs rank, not because anybody learns anything from them. Two mode counts and two battery claims in adjacent columns look like evidence and are arithmetic on marketing copy.

So this is a single table with everything in it. You can search it, narrow it to a category, and get from any product to the page where the reasoning about it is written out. What it will not give you is a column of figures, and that is a factual constraint rather than a stylistic choice.

How to use the table

  • Search by brand to see everything we cover from one maker, which is faster than reading the brand pages when you already know the name.
  • Narrow to a category to see the full field rather than the three or four products a buying guide ranks. The guides are deliberately short; this is the complete list.
  • Follow the category link rather than searching for the product elsewhere. The page it leads to says what the products in that category differ on, which is the part that decides your purchase.
  • Treat the store column as a logistics fact, not a quality signal. Several of the best-regarded products in the catalog are sold only through retailers, and a few indifferent ones have excellent shops.

What would have to change for this table to carry numbers

  1. A bench and instruments

A sound meter at a fixed distance, an accelerometer with a defined mounting, a battery rig that records to cutoff. Without those, a figure in a column is a repeated claim rather than a measurement.

  2. A written method, fixed before the measuring

The setting, the distance, the load, the ambient conditions and the number of repeats, published alongside the figures so somebody else could get the same result.

  3. The products bought rather than supplied

A sample provided by a brand with measurements attached is an advertisement with decimal points in it.

  4. The table rebuilt from the measurements, not from the catalog

At that point the columns become comparable and this page changes shape. Until then it says what it holds, which is 85 products and no numbers.

Questions people ask

Why not include the manufacturer specifications anyway, labeled as such?
A few pages on this site do exactly that, where the figure means something on its own. In a comparison table the labeling does not help: putting two unlike numbers in adjacent cells invites the comparison the label is supposed to prevent.
Is this every sex toy on the market?
No. It is every product this site covers, which is a deliberately limited set chosen by search demand and by whether we could write about the category honestly. Three categories were refused outright and the pages say why.
Why do some products have no maker-run store?
Plenty of good makers sell only through retailers, especially in lubricant, furniture and the smaller specialist workshops. It changes where you buy and who handles a warranty claim, not whether the toy is any good.
Does the table work without JavaScript?
Yes. All the rows are in the page. The search box and the category filter only hide rows, so with scripting off you get the complete table and the browser’s own find function.

Every product this site is willing to name, in one place: 85 products across 29 brands and 34 categories, of which 80 are sold through a store the maker runs itself. There are no specifications in this table, and the note under it says why.
